I don't know what it was, but for a gravely imperfect game I really enjoyed it overall. I guess it's a game where it feels like it's more than the sum of its parts, despite the fact that it had relatively unspecial characters, a weirdly and sometimes illogically presented story, fairly simplistic combat, fairly simplistic/lazy sidequests, lots of tedium in getting around (load screens), certain recurring enemies when you don't want them... Maybe it's just the world. The way the fantasy and modern technology that we have in the real world blend together.
