Not underrated, but really just pick any Super Mario Land or Wario Land game. Keep same levels and add an extra world. Use box art as in game graphics. Rehaul the physics, but keep games pretty much 1:1 faithful in terms of level design. Arrange soundtracks but still with a modern chiptune style.

For underrated I say Army Men Sarge's Heroes and sequel. Have modern controls and camera. Reorchestrate soundtrack but keep same score. Fix escort missions. Add checkpoints in levels.

There's been several indie games in modern times influenced by Army Men series. Sarge's Heroes 1 & 2 were very charming. If Glover can have a remaster then something could be done with Army Men.
