It's not about getting the last word. It's that teens are objectively more developed that children. If you want to talk about sexual matters, it's fair to say that they're all minors and leave it at that. In terms of everything else, a 17-year-old is going to handle complex issues, violent content, difficult choices, the responsibility of driving, choices over whether to adhere to social structures or rebel against them, and everything else with closer proximity to an adult than, say, an 8-year-old or a 12-year-old.

Nobody is disputing that people mature as they go. Theyre just stating that in most capacities a 16 year old is seen as a child, and theyre absolutely right.

It was a very frustrating truth for me, when I was 16, as I was working full time and living alone and financially independent, but in many ways seen as a child. But frustrating or not, its still the truth.
