I will never understand peoples obsession with saying that the first is the best one for anything media related. Like this music artists first album is the always the best, the first season of a tv show is always the best, and what this topic is.

Is it a hipster ego thing? Makes them feel so special for thinking the first release to be the best entry always? Im just pointing it out because its always the universally popular stance to choose on the internet for whatever reason, and its kind of obnoxious to see all the time.
I mean, I don't agree with it always, but there's some reason why it happens. The first is typically any series at its freshest. It's when the creatives had the largest, natural spark to create for that, and they really had a passion for this idea. Many times, sequels are mandated, and at that point, even if good, you can tell where they had to go through the motions of it, or it just doesn't snap as well together.

When you first create something, there are so many possibilities, so much energy, so much excitement. Afterwards, you are bound by the limitations you gave yourself from the original source material. It's probably why Shrek 2 doesn't get this treatment, considering 2 went a different route/didn't constrain itself to what "Shrek 1" might have established.
