One of my coworkers was going on about what the "optimal team" is for SMRPG and I guess I'll just not ever truly understand optimizing a reasonably easy single player game.

But there's also no reason to use visibly inferior characters like Mallow who has no party heal and Bowser who has shitty status effect special moves and does less damage than both Mario and Geno on average.

Not that the game doesn't practically fall over itself to give you over powered accessories like the Ghost Medal, The Jinx Belt and the Attack Scarf.

In any case "Just don't use good items and team mates" is a bad argument against a game being too easy and having bad balance. Like playing Dark Souls and saying "just don't use dodge".
