A few animals were already known to be able to reproduce asexually such as a number of snake species and even condors. Shouldn't be surprising that fish are also capable of it.

It was artificially induced in mice but the children had horrible birth defects and died in a few days so something about mammals makes this process extremely difficult and it's not likely ever going to be a thing for humans.
