Youy guys' examples are too extreme...roads, public schools? Like those are basic needs that need to be funded. Theres just so much superfluous that is well beyond "Needs" that wastes money. Like we could cut taxes by 5% across every bracket and we wouldn't be significantly affected.

That's not true. A lot of people are just straight up living medically substandard lives for lack of a proper social safety net. Merely affording insulin is absurdly expensive.

Public schools should be considered basic needs, but we treat teachers like shit and keep lowering school standards so as to avoid paying for proper materials and proper teachers. You know what the response was to trying to get kids to eat more veggies? Declaring ketchup a vegetable, because there was no way to fund proper meals.

(This is another reason why NJ is secretly the best state. We try to care about teachers, and I ate well in school despite being poor.)
