Home air quality can have varying mold concentrations that there's no catch-all time frame that anyone should be claiming as good for everyone.

This is exactly the answer. The reason packets last longer than bottles is because they're not exposed to open air. Once you open a bottle, it becomes exposed to air, and that impacts the shelf life. But there is no definite answer, and it's why, for pretty much ANY product, the "best by" date is a guideline, and not a definite answer. It could go bad before that date, it could go bad after that date. It all depends.
