That's a bit of a silly argument, since we've literally seen streamers with tons of followers/subs do such a thing, and they start with next to nothing until it becomes known what they're doing, since... That's the very nature of streaming. It takes a loooong time to get big with streaming. Nobody gets "found" overnight.

When you create a new Twitch/whatever account, it has literally no followers and will thus appear at the very bottom of any game/whatever search results, which means it will take a long time to be "discovered," unless people find out "Oh, it's actually X."

EDIT: Going no cam actually matters more than you'd think, since streamers naturally get less people watching when they have no cam on, no matter how big or small they are. People like to put a face to what they're watching, and if they can't, they figure they might as well be watching a video on Youtube.
Going "I, one of the most popular streamers in the world, had 10k viewers this one time I didn't have my camera on, therefore I'm not popular for my looks" is stupid. Flat out. It doesn't disprove the assertion whatsoever because there's already so many things in your favor that you wouldn't have if you weren't already so well known that you could do a stream where you do literally nothing but stare blankly at the camera for an hour and still pull in more views than most people will ever see.

It's vaguely like those "self made millionaires" that already had extremely successful parents that were able to hook them up with all sorts of connections and favors most people wouldn't have access to, even if the kids never actually got any financial loans from them.

And yes, for most streamers they'll lose a portion of their viewers when they do a stream without a cam on, but the loss won't be that big most of the time for the bigger ones BECAUSE they're already so big. They're already known, they're already popular, they've already got an established fanbase that'll show up no matter what.

Also your second paragraph demonstrates my argument perfectly.
