By what age should you have outgrown video games? I'd say maybe late 20s. I'd say by then you should have a family and career that you're fully committed to. Any leisure time not spent with family/work is spent on more worthwhile endeavors like exercising or reading.

You should only be committed to starting a family if that's what you want. You'll be miserable otherwise and your family will suffer for it.

Exercise and reading aren't really that much more worthwhile as activities go and I say this as someone who used to read a lot. You want to stay healthy and informed sure, but if we're talking free time, a video game is not a bad plan. I've learned quite a lot from games, unironically.

Besides if your goal is self improvement or acquiring useful skill sets during your free time, there are better things to do than work out or read. Staying healthy and informed should already be part of your normal routine anyway and free time should be spent learning more sought after skills. Like learning a new language.
