To be entirely fair, this isn't/wasn't strictly because she's female. Another famous example is that Toriyama completely forgot that there was an SS2 and originally called/wrote the form Goku showcased in the Buu Saga with the super long hair "SS2" he had to be reminded of this fact and changed accordingly. He's the first to admit that he's really forgetful and unlike other authors, doesn't write down stuff / keep a log. He really should. I'm reminded of an answer George Lucas gave frequently in interviews leading up to The Phantom Menace: Well, its not a religious event. I hate to tell people that.
