They still aren't the same character, though. In the series, the Night King was the first person turned into a White Walker, while in the books, the Night's King was a corrupt leader of the Night's Watch who allegedly fell in love with an Other and then lost his soul and went mad with power.

alright I definitely admit I forgot that bit of lore from the books so there is a big difference

I think George's plan for the books were to make the Night God/Many Faced God/Lord of Light much more prominent but it just didn't translate to TV well with the time constraints they had.

the children of the forest creating them to fight off man's destruction seems more like a godzilla kinda thing
