4 gets a pass for one-note characters, mostly, but Cecil ISN'T that, which is genuinely surprising for the time. The whole redemption arc thing might be cliched but was reflected well, and he is almost always a hyper competent frontline with his support abilities being there as a bonus. Lad's lipstick choice is questionable, though.

I'd argue Zell is more of a comic relief character than even Selphie, and his immaturity grates a lot. Plus, that tattoo is stupid. That said, big fan of monk types (voted Black Belt a few days ago) and he's one of the main "break the game in half without abusing Junction too hard" characters with his limit.

The whole "Faris is a cross dresser" thing was a huge deal back in the 90s, and may not resonate now, but she scores points BECAUSE almost no attention is brought up about it after the reveal beyond an immortal Greg line (and her discomfort at going back to play princess Tycoon when the worlds merge) which she throws away to have some fun at Bartz and Krile's expense when they try to vamoose. She loses a perfect 10 for overplaying the pirate king part even after the reveals - especially since Leila did it first, with less cliche.
