It's not that pitbulls are more aggressive than other dogs. What makes them more dangerous is their powerful bite strength and their "hold and shake" instinct when attacking. This is especially dangerous when they bite a human or other animal by the neck. This is what leads to higher fatalities.

Other breeds attack a lot, maybe even more than pit bulls, but they are much less likely to result in serious injury or death. Chihuahuas, for example, may be more aggressive than a pit bull, but usually a chihuahua attack won't result in anything more serious than needing a few stitches on your hand and a tetanus shot.

Now personally I don't think we should euthanize pit bulls unless they already have shown aggressive behavior, but making it illegal to breed pit bulls and having more restrictions on owners seems like common sense to me.

I also would be on board with extending that to other "attack" dogs. In general I think selective breeding of dogs is gross. The less of it the better.

yeah, plenty of other dogs can be trained to be just as aggressive. when I was a kid there was a house on the next street over that had animals and electric fences and everything. they also had 3 aggressive ass Rotts as guard dogs. if you got *anywhere near* that fence without one of the owners or their kids being present they would just swarm right up and growl until you left. this fence bordered a clearing in the woods where dozens of neighborhood kids had built a bike track and hung out every day.

one day they put a mound of compost/soil right next to the fence and the dogs jumped over. every single one of us kids had to run for our lives but only one got injured because luckily someone from that house overheard it and called them back.

they were very well trained...but also trained to kill anything that could possibly harm their farm.

oh, and the electric fence was literally only for the dogs. they had horses too, and they were always jumping over the fence on the other side of their property that was blocked off from the dogs. there were at least 5 mornings I went out to catch the school bus just to see a horse munching on the grass in my yard

and if Pitbulls actually get banned Rotts will be the next deadly breed that has to be banned. eventually it'll get down to german shepherds but the cops use those so it'll just get waved off
