You are confused by deliberately warped news. Let me enlighten you:

-Most of the "billions" we're sending to Ukraine is in the form of equipment we don't/can't use.

-The military budget is ~800 billion USD. Those tax dollars you speak of were going to the military, regardless of what's happening with Ukraine. What actual spending that happens is a drop in the bucket.

-It is vastly more cost effective to handle Russia this way than to let them get stronger and eventually have to deal with them down the line.

If you really, actually care about our economy in the long and short, and can stop thinking only in partisan politics, then you can see that this is literally the most cost effective option.
Yet we are giving Urkraine cluster munitions that is banned in over a 100 countries, fucks up the land and cost millions and takes years to clear up the duds.

Russia is forming an Axis with China, North Korea and various African nations that hate and will probably put sanctions on westerners. How is that better for the economy?
