Being in a happy healthy relationship requires you to be happy and healthy first, if this guy is not that no amount of having a "real" girlfriend is going to fix that until he "fixes" himself. Because I honestly doubt he is happy. He sounds like someone who has given up and will accept absolutely any form of attention because he thinks he doesn't deserve better. Now if he truly is happy, then so be it, but doubtful.
