Though now that I think about it, one of my film studies professors did make a point that good satire always ends badly - you either drift into non-satire and go with a more heroic yet formulaic ending (as the movie in question baits you into thinking), or you stay full-bore down the path of satire and end the movie on a conceptually-humorous yet ultimately weird and unsatisfying note.
Airplane has a pretty great ending
