I definitely agree it is, and also that the topic is pretty good at derailing threads on CE, I just mean that I don't think Maruki giving Yusuke back Madarame instead of EG bringing his mom back is to be read as Maruki's imperfect judgment. If it provides us with any negative information about him it's that it shows how manipulative he is willing to be due to his distorted desires that he would use conseling as a pretext to gather info on the Phantoms to later ideologically neutralize them

I don't think Maruki is being manipulative in that way. He seems to genuinely want to make people's lives better, his ideas about how to do it just differ from the phantoms.

also, Yusuke approached Maruki first, without anyone ever suggesting he do so.
