You have the intro song, cant wait to be king and be prepared amd you say its visually boring?! The live action was a real example of being visually boring.
When they're not doing musical set pieces. Should have specified I guess. Just the way the characters and foreground is animated is so bland to me. Even the Mufasa in the clouds scene, while looking better than most of the movie, isn't as well done as it could have been. Ironically the most visually striking scene is the one where they got a computer to copypaste 300 wildebeests.

Comparatively with films like Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Hunchback, Tarzan, Rescuers Down Under, or even Hercules, gimmicky as it is, or Pocahontas, racist as it is, there's just not a lot going on for me in Lion King. It's almost like they wanted to make the visual experience of the film "realistic", or down to earth in the regular scenes to, I suppose, showcase the smoothness of the animal characters' movements and contrast it with the more stylistic musical number sequences. Which is definitely not a bad idea. I just don't think it works very well. But obviously I'm extremely alone in that view.
