Yes. I believed it was a full remake but it's separated by story events/chapters and there's no actual overworld exploration. The gacha, from what I can tell, is for weapons and costumes, which are largely inconsequential. I've heard from some that the gameplay is actually really fun though.

Might as well try it at least, it's free. I don't like gacha stuff but I just don't involve myself with it.

Eh if it's free and not hostile towards free players, then maybe I'll give it a shot some day. I never played the original ff7 and thought this would be a good version to try when it came out. I guess it's probably still fine even if it plays differently.
