I can honestly say that, while I would never call myself a genius, I wouldve never been as stupid and petty back then to actually care about what kind of phone someone used, regardless of features between devices.

Back before kids had devices, it was the right kind of shoes (pumps, Jordans, pick your era of shoes) or jackets or other clothes (Starter and Bugle Boy comes to mind from ancient times).

There's always going to be something.

I'm not saying you personally were petty or aware of it. There were people around you who were very aware and very petty about those things. (Kind of surprised you don't have a story about being targeted for not caring. The kids who said that got singled out and called the poorest, trying to pretend they didn't care because they couldn't afford to. I watched some real malicious bastards growing up.)
