Today was the scheduled hearing before Judge Chutkan in the 1/6 trial.

tl;dr: Chutkan has set the trial date for March 4, 2024

The Special Counsel's office was asking for a trial date in January 2024 while Trump's legal team was asking for the completely non-serious trial date of April 2026. She also swatted down the ridiculous notion that Trump's personal and professional schedule had to be accomodated - with Chutkin say, "Setting a trial date does not depend and should not depend on a defendant's personal and professional obligations. Mr. Trump, like any defendant will have to make the trial date work, regardless of his schedule." She also expressed serious skepticism that the case was "complex" by noting it's one defendant and four charges and that while she's aware the defendant being a former President makes it historic that's not the same thing as legally complex and questioned Trump's side over what they felt made it complex since they kept asserting that as a reason why the trial had to be in 2026. Trump's lawyer allegedly kept trying to talk over the judge too which sure is a bold legal strategy.

Fun Fact: March 5 is Super Tuesday lol
