My two cents...

As a 41 year old parent, I'll give my point of view. Please bear with me as I am trying to learn more about trans people. No one should be beaten or killed for who they are, we all have a right to exist and live.

From my perspective and I presume it may be the same to many other older folks is this. Back "in the day" there were no trans people (obviously untrue). Growing up, we had gay people sure, but no one was trans. It wasn't even a term used, with the closest term being transvestite (media didn't really portray them in a good light) but no one actually was one of THOSE PEOPLE.

Now, even here in rural New Hampshire we see far more of them. So to us older people, it seems like they sprung out of nowhere all of a sudden. Now obviously, that probably comes down to the fact that there WERE trans people but they most likely didn't feel safe coming out and saying that. We had nothing even for LGB kids growing up.
