For years, my takeaway was that Walt only ever cared about himself, but upon rewatching, I think Jesse might be the only one he cares about in a strange way. There's so many decisions he makes to his detriment to work with Jesse, or in this case, save his life.
He could have easily just let the two dealers kill Jesse and go on cooking for Gus, but he saves Jesse anyway. I can't quite figure out why that is; does Walt really care for Jesse for his sake, or does he just like having some sort of control over him? --- A hunter is a hunter...even in a dream [She/they] ...
