How was it ambiguous? ~~Magic died, Clive died, Joshua seemed to live and write a book that became just a fairy tale book in the future with no magic.~~ That's the conclusion I came to at first, but some people brought arguments that made sense to me: Clive lived and wrote about his story using Joshua's name as a tribute, given that some sidequests imply that Clive may take up writing a book when everything is finished.
