I just straight-up don't believe them on this. Every single time I've seen someone ask how solo-able FFXIV is, the answer is "It's basically a single-player JRPG/visual novel but you do sometimes have to zone in to dungeons/bosses with other players". No one ever leaves out that second part, certainly not 97% of people.
