Only seemed fitting one of the years biggest games gets another milestone platinum like 550. FF16 boasts one of the best plots and casts of characters in the series while sporting a more DMC-like combat system that seems to have split the fanbase. I'm a fan of character action games so I enjoyed the combat in this game, although it doesn't go as deep as you would want if you were going in that direction. It's very easy in comparison even on the harder NG+ mode so even people not used to these types of games shouldn't have much of an issue completing it. Still had a lot of fun playing it though. Once you get a setup that works you can just erase bosses once you break their stagger meter. Although it being kinda easy lets you appreciate the visuals of those boss fights. Honestly some of most visually impressive boss fights ever in a video game. I think this would be an easy GotY in any other year, but 2023 is shaping up to be like 2017 where you could fill an entire top 10 of games that could be GotYs so it's gonna be tough when it comes time to make my list. We'll see!

The Platinum here has you completing the game twice. The first time on the difficulty of your choice (Story or Action) then a New Game+ on Final Fantasy difficulty which raises the level cap from 50 to 100 and has all new upgraded gear and a new ultimate weapon to get. There's nothing really different beyond that other than QTE prompts disappear during boss fights you just have to remember which color corresponds to which button. The first playthrough you can do a 100% playthrough completing all sidequests and hunts then NG+ you can just rush the story and max out the skill tree at some point along the way and that's pretty much it. When you get a new eikon ability and moveset there are some combat related trophies to using those abilities, but nothing too crazy.

Final time for me was 101:23 and I ended up at level 88.

Now I can finally get back to Diablo IV before Season 1 starts because I never got around to finishing the campaign before FF16 dropped and I at least want to get that out of the way XD
