well, that and the border countries that at any point in time could be said to have been part of the russian empire. for instance, sweden has a long tradition of neutrality. but go back before that long history, and in like 1700 russia and sweden were bitter rivals for the arctic coast of europe. apparently the invasion of ukraine has led them to recalibrate their thinking to the point where neutrality is off the books and aligning with one side is seen as the better option.

obv this is much more directly impactful on the baltics, and poland, but for the next decade or so, it will be difficult for any politician in europe to advocate for a tilt to russia. economic engagement, once thought to be a good thing, now is fraught with peril.

so it goes beyond the g-7.
