I cant speak for conservatives but I can trust that Ricky Gervais and other similar liberal comedians truly are joking and are simply examining transgender culture comedically. If we take his jokes about transgender people at face value and think hes just making factual statements, then that means we need to do the same with all the other ridiculous and silly things hes said for comedic effect. Hes said, on paper, horrible things about so many facets of society, but I can trust that hes just examining the topic and making humorous observations and slipping in some misdirections to mess with the audience.
