It does need to be explained because I presented an argument for why Jim is a bully, a d that Dwight being socially awkward and unpleasant doesn't justify the constant harassment. Especially since the show establishes how Dwight is not an actual threat to Jim.

Maybe this dynamic changes in later seasons, but I remember a lot oft friends were really into the show at the time, so I saw probably all of the first season or two. I stopped watching around season three or four, and would see episodes occasionally after that for context.

Jim is sometimes a bully (and he has some moments of regret later in the series), but it is prompted by Dwight being an insufferable co-worker. Pranking him is more harmless than actually reporting him to HR.
