Dwight is portrayed as an antagonist, but he's really just a poor weirdo that gets relentlessly bullied. A show like Parks and Rec did it better with Jerry - it put a lampshade on it and made the audience understand the joke was that he didn't deserve all the shit he got, almost a satire of characters like Dwight.
