This is a direct result of U.S car-centric infrastructure and the fact that most people nowadays are driving around fatass SUVs/pickup trucks that have poor visibility from the front and are more deadly to pedestrians. While yes, there are some "evil jaywalkers" not paying attention to their surroundings, the only way this trend can be reversed is to impose restrictions on the designs of large cars/pickup trucks, and design our living spaces around alternatives to driving. ...
