Topic | [VGMC] Day 38! Pearls/Cassiopeia, Drenched/Calling, Old L.A./Yet It Wanes |
loweffortmemes 06/19/23 9:57:29 PM #58: | Cowboy Bebop: Tsuioku no Serenade - PEARLS jubeat Ave. - Drenched in Air Arknights - And Yet It Wanes MATCH 1 Pearls is really nice with the vocal melody. I think it pulls of this older, romantic style of music pretty well. The beginning of Cassiopeia Battle is kind of rough. Lots of harsh-sounding chords thrown in there that I'm not really a fan of. 0:48 picks things up a lot more though. I really like that part of the song. Post-1:54 to the loop point, though, is a bit of a downgrade. I might've been inclined to vote for this song if it was all as good as that 0:48 part, but I think Pearls is better on average. MATCH 2 Drenched in Air is probably the song I've come back to the most since VGMC nominations ended. There's a lot of complexity to this song that lands really well for me. Largely with the vocal and piano work, but the percussion is also something that hypes up the song a lot for me without going overboard. So, I'm a big Hololive fan, and Ina's my favorite Gen 1 EN member, but despite that I've never actually listened to a song she's been on until now lol. Meanwhile, I've listened to a whole Sora Tokino album before, but I digress. Anyway, Ina's vocal work here is really good! She has a pretty dynamic voice from what I'm hearing here. Take, for instance, the verses compared to this part at 1:06-1:12. I was actually floored at this part because it sounds so different from how her talking voice sounds in her streams, but in a good way (I like those vtuber clips where they show their "real" voice or ikemen voice or whatever, so I feel like it's a similar thing here). Other parts I really enjoy are the "woah-oh-oh" right before the drops and especially the modulation at 2:38-2:39. Also some specific melodic phrases like 0:49 (though it's most prominent at 2:58-3:00 where she says "undersea labyrinth") and the "drenched with air" parts are particularly noteworthy. In general, this song ticks a lot of boxes for me with strong vocals, melodies, and complexity in its instrumentation and the number of different layers to the song, and Camellia works these things in really well here with a good balance of intensity as it waxes and wanes throughout the song, creating a good flow to it. It's another song where it was a bit of a sleeper hit in that it took me a little bit for the song to sink in and make me realize how much I enjoy it, but yeah, this is a really great song. Wah! Calling is a great song as well, and it's unfortunate I couldn't take it here. MATCH 3 [Whoops, I spent like 45 minutes gushing over Drenched in Air instead of doing the rest of my writeups, will finish soon] ... Copied to Clipboard! |
