But one of those is about calling out attacks, which sure sounds like being ashamed of being a battle shonen to me.
But it's not really a battle shonen anymore. I have mixed feelings about the trailer, but it is good that they're actually making an adaptation, rather than trying to go 1:1 which would probably have worked out way worse.

Also yeah, Zoro definitely calls out his attacks.
I think the problem is that Zoro's attacks are all Japanese (and food puns iirc) and if you literally translate them, most of them sound really dumb. It's no problem for Luffy to sound really dumb, because that's Luffy, but for Zoro it would take away some edge I think. And keeping them Japanese would just be weird if the live-action is more Anglo-centric.

One problem, the One Piece anime is not great. At least pacing-wise, it's very daunting. It's hard to recommend it to people, unlike something like Cowboy Bebop. So if this show is decent enough, it could encourage anime/manga likes who are put off by the anime to read the manga!

One Piece has few, if any, pacing issues until like episode 300 at which point you should be invested enough to stick with it until like 500-600 when it becomes actually bad and you can then just go to the manga.

Anyway, I have mixed feelings but overall it didn't look as bad as I thought it would. I think my main issue was the bad cinematography and Nami's wig. Who would've thought that with Zoro and Sanji, she'd come out looking the worst? It looked better in the 'not a crew' scene, but still.

How paralyzingly dull, boring and tedious!
