I have white coat hypertension, which means my blood pressure reads high at the doctor's office no matter what (my doctors have studied this thoroughly, including having me read levels at home, comparing my cuff to theirs at the office, etc.) so I get it, to an extent.

It just feels so weird, since it means I get nervous around doctors even without realizing it. It's especially weird since I almost became one, though maybe that even plays a part.

It's absolutely a thing! If I see a BP I don't like, I'll check it again before they leave my office. By that time, it'll usually go down. There are so many factors to consider. Anxiety about seeing a provider to begin with, overall concerns about health status, worrying about making the appointment on time, dealing with traffic, possibly making a difficult financial transaction, etc. One or all of those could be at play, most of which wouldn't occur in the comfort of your own home.
