If I remember right in an old interview, I think on the Empire of Dreams documentary, he says something to the point of he owes his success to Star Wars or he wouldn't be where he is without it. I think it's part him being annoyed by rabid fans and tired of all the questions and playing it up being a grouch.

I think it's this. To expand upon my earlier assertion, I remember an anecdote he gave on Conan (?) about his early career (forgive me, I'm too lazy to look it up and am probably gonna butcher it): he had a bit part in a movie alongside Tony Curtis I think, and a studio exec pulled him aside and tried to coach him on how to be a leading man. Curtis was playing a busboy, but the exec tried to impress on Ford that 'when you see Tony acting, you see Tony Curtis, understand?' And Ford shot back 'Oh, really? I thought you were supposed to be seeing a busboy?!"

That and similar interviews paints a picture to me that he's just never really bought into the typical Hollywood bullshit and ego-driven self-importance; not that he doesn't take pride in his career, but it is just a career, and he's not one of those actors who thinks his profession is going to solve world hunger and cure all diseases. So when a power-nerd SW fan comes up to him and gushes about how he's their hero, he's probably gonna tell them to chill out, he's just an actor. And when SW fans pester him about a Wookiepedia's worth of inane trivia, he's probably going to tell them to grow up and get a life, it's just a damn movie.
