I guess "bad" is hyperbole on my part. Trial and error being the main medium through which you learn about the game's mechanics, the series is marred by convoluted and confusing menus, delayed actions, long loading screens, slow deaths, far distances to travel, and numerous other time wasting inclusions that disincentivize the very thing they're trying to promote. NES games did this all the time and the worst of them are universally panned, but this series gets a pass because its fans are loud and its budget is large.
