You sure about that? Depression doesn't just make you sad. It changes your brain, it makes it so that you literally process the world differently, have different behavior, etc.

The only difference in that regard between the person with depression and the person with autism is that the person with depression hasn't chosen to view it as a cultural identity.

Like we can take your argument about autism and apply it to all psychiatric disorders. In fact, that's what people like scientologists do. They believe all psychiatric medicine is an effort of trying to control the diversity of thought in the world, that psychiatric medicine is evil because of this.
