I think people underestimate just how bad the issue with cell phone usage during instructional time is with students, unless you work in a school setting you wouldn't understand. This is my first year teaching (7th) and these kids can't function without their phones.

It's so annoying when kids zone out on what you are saying within 30 secs and are on their phone browsing TikTok. I'd bet 1k this teacher told her multiple times to put the phone away before confiscating it.

There should be rules and expectations for students to follow, and if they don't then there should be consequences (shocking, I know). If a student can't be bothered enough to listen for 5 minutes or complete their assignments and would rather play on their phone then it should be confiscated until the end of class, if they can't handle that then call security (if they show up in a timely matter) and turn it over to the office.
