It's an ugly burger and In-N-Out is all about quality and having a 'smiling burger' aka if you flip the burger upside down, the cheese melt on the side of the patty is suppose to make the burger smile. I think by then they had installed timers on all the grill since the grill in the pic has the bun clamp, it tells the cook when to turn the meat and when to pull it.
