Marvel succeeded because of good writing and good casting. Even people who like the Mario movie admit it doesn't have good writing.

Right, but again, the level of "success" Nintendo has to hit is a good bit less than what Marvel has to hit, due to budget differences.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you. I'm just saying it remains to be seen what Nintendo can pull off, since they have a much different hill to climb. DC had to climb Marvel's hill since it was direct competition. Nintendo is, ultimately, building their own hill to climb, since the closest competition was... Sonic? So it remains to be seen what happens. Nintendo doesn't have to match Marvel's success because they don't match Marvel's budget, so it leaves things open.
