I don't think Lemkin's definition of genocide (which is the basis for the UN definition) supports the idea of a "trans genocide". "National group" is supposed to be a looser stand in for "nation", not to mean a group that is nationally present.

I think it's still valid to refer to it as genocide/attempted genocide, I just think you have to appeal to more contemporary definitions.
