It honestly stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the great comedy classics in my book. Near-flawlessly executed, and so layered that it not only demands a rewatch to pick up all the little bits of foreshadowing, but is one of those movies where you can find something new every time you watch it.

Special mention to one particular element of the movie: the killers murdering their victims for hilariously trivial reasons. "Oh, she had a very annoying laugh." "You murdered them!!" "Well, they murdered Bill Shakespeare!" I singled this out in particular because I had always wanted to see a slasher / murder-mystery comedy do this - maybe a different movie did and I never knew about it, but for my tastes, Hot Fuzz finally delivered on this longtime wish. Club Dread came sooooo close a couple years earlier, but chickened out at the last minute. The best part is that, even though all the murders were committed over completely petty reasons, they did still manage to tie quite effectively into the overall plot, which was weeding out all these petty annoyances to win the Best Village Award. Major feature in Hot Fuzz's cap for pulling this off so well.
