Topic | Do you believe in... life after death? |

So if the big bang indirectly created us as a consequence then it can happen again for an infinite amount of times. I don't see any way around it. There may no such thing as "non-existence" even. So we are stuck existing. Are you trying to say that the universe is, over time, continually destroyed and recreated, and therefore we are destined to live again? Nobody knows what caused the Big Bang, and as far as I know, there is no real evidence for a cycle of any kind. But even if there is some kind of cycle of creation and destruction as far as the universe is concerned, that has nothing to do with us personally. Quantum mechanics completely destroys the idea that we live in deterministic universe. If the universe gets "rebooted", it won't be a loop; different things will happen. And what good would it do you if the universe actually was some kind of loop where the same things really did happen each time, right down to the same people being born? If there is nothing like a soul, then our existence as thinking beings is the result of biological processes in the brain. When the brain dies, we die. So in the case of a loop, there will uncounted years in the future be another you born. What of it? That would just be a new instance of a similar (or even identical) version of a person that looks like you and has your personality. There is no continuity of being, any more than if I someone created a machine that could make a perfect duplicate of you. --- Cuteness is justice! It's the law. ... Copied to Clipboard! |
