Sure - because with one-offs I think it's more likely that the adaption supports the original, rather than erases it. The more "Disney-fied" it gets (spread out and endlessly milked) the more the original product is destined to fade to obscurity.

So if we could have one off films (preferably with totally different vibes and audiences than Illumination) I could see that paying off really well. If we get an endless series of fan-service kid movies, then that's bad.
