How do did they not plan the movies Daisy did an interview with Josh Gad once, and he asked her how she felt about the big twist with her. J. J. Abrams went up to her in the middle of filming RoS and said "guess what, Palpatine is your grandfather". Then the very next day, she went up to him and asked him about it, and he said "actually, no, we're probably not doing that". And then a few days later, they changed it back. I think Disney has done a really good job with the IP...except the sequel trilogy. Which is the one you would expect they'd have the attention to.
