The episode varies with people, but basically the brain warps reality to make it rationalize that everything around them is trying to persecute you. It's an odd feeling because when I was in that state, I knew myself that I was warping reality, but to my mind and perception it's a real feeling. It's pretty surreal. Anyway after some deep rest you'll probably discover some underlying stressor that caused it. The human mind is really fragile, things like this helps you appreciate how delicate it is. Hope your gf recovers soon. She's been super stressing herself since she lost her last job. She wants to do so many things for work but can't get herself started in anything.
