Lived on Long Island for about 5 years and have gone into the city many times both for recreation and for work. Thought about moving to Queens to the extent I was visiting rooms for rent but decided against it.

Decent place to visit and easier than most cities in the US to get around with public transit. But it's frankly too much constant stimulation for me for more than short trips. Also too many people trying to pull one over on you while you're just trying to walk down the street; I just want to be left alone.

I may be biased because I worked in environmental consulting so a lot of the places I went to for work were the nastiest industrial parts of the city where environmental issues were prone to happen.
