Yeah I have known them for a while and I have never known them to consume anything other than nerdy commercial entertainment. For example they never seem to watch anything other than anime, (which I like too, dont get me wrong. But its not all I watch) porn, or movies like Ready Player One or comic book movies. Anything else is of no interest to them. Like no serious dramas or historical movies or anything like that. For books its only like DnD-esque fantasy novels.

Which is their prerogative. But like you said I think its a shame to not learn more about the world around you which also means engaging in more adult stuff.

I think the common element between these things that are regarded as "childish" is that they, like entertainment meant for children, require minimal background knowledge going in. Whearas if someone were reading classic literature, they would need to have some knowledge of that place and time to get the most out of the work. If someone were to read War and Peace for instance, they would need to know at least a little bit about the French Revolution, the Napoleonic Wars, and Russian history to get the most out of it.

And since you mentioned Star Wars, your friend would surely get more out of it if he were familiar with Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell, people that an educated person would know about, if even in passing.
