Who started this myth that they taste bad? Sure mushrooms suck but actual proper vegtables are lovely Christ in the UK the veggies are often the nicest part of the meal. No green beans or squash? Those are staples in my house. No tomatoes, peppers (including paprika), eggplants, or potatoes though.
